#MusicMonday July 13th
Written by Total Meyhem on 13th July 2020
This week’s #MusicMonday choice comes from #FirstPlays host JayRock.
JayRock’s choice is from Will And The People, an Alternative Rock band from the South Coast of the UK.
Will and the People are a Rock band from the UK… The project was started by singer songwriter William Rendle in Brighton England and put together over a series of years…
They have three albums and the fourth is out this year..
They are fast gaining fans and like to think of themselves as the kind of band who make an impact on their fans… They are not just playing songs. They are living through music.
Signed to Various Artists Management (The Libertines, Supergrass, Tom Grennan), the band have released three albums, including their debut self-titled album which was a chart hit in Holland, Will and the People have plenty in the pipeline for 2020.
At the end of 2019, Will And The People revved back into the world with renewed vigour with a two-month tour of the UK, Europe and Australia, reconnecting with their self-sufficient DIY roots and more pumped and defiant than ever before.
In January, working with Distiller Records, they holed up in a studio near Bath for ten days and self-produced 25 songs with the plan of releasing songs one-by-one rather than holding out for an album,
“to give our fans what we’ve denied them for the past three or four years. We’re going to be releasing more music in the next year than we have in the last five years. this new era of fast releasing and putting it out as we make it and not sitting on it is a very inspiring time for us.”
They show no sign of relenting from their brand of genre-bending alternative rock, and there is a sense of rejuvenation in the band’s new music, a refresh of their look and artwork in collaboration with renowned designer Luke Insect, and above all a sense of self-belief at their core.
Later this year, Will and the People will embark on their ‘Started On Love’ tour across the UK & Europe and are currently in the process of rescheduling dates supporting Rag‘n’Bone Man for 2021
JayRock’s choice is “Shame” and as our Track Of The Week, we will play this every day at 6am, Midday, 6pm and Midnight.
