French fusion metallers Mobius release stunning bass and vocal playthrough video of ‘Akasha’

Ahead of the January 30th release date of their Sophomore album, ‘Kala’, the modern progressive metal outfit MOBIUS have released a special bass and vocal playthrough video of their latest single, ‘Akasha’, which premiered on Prog Magazine’s website.

Featuring stunning performances from vocalist Héli Andrea and bassist Alexandre Gaudencio, the latest visual release from Mobius – shot in the same location as the “official” video – sees the two bandmates demonstrating the various performance techniques employed across the single’s ambient, djenty riffs of western metal fused with middle-eastern vocal influence.

As outlined in the single’s original release on December 28th, ‘Akasha’ translates from Sanskrit to ‘ether’, with the song’s lyrical content exploring the concept of cremation, and the return of the body and soul into the natural and spiritual world.

Explains vocalist and chief lyricist Heli Andrea, “My favourite moment of the song is the loop with “I am one in a million”, because there are subtle changes to the wording of each line that changes the meaning (one / ones / once, million / millions). Little by little the lead and backing vocals are mixed together, and it gives echoes and something really atmospheric. I also love the ambient bridge, with the foreign vocals. I think this will become an improvisation moment for me when we play live.”

Having started out on guitar and moved to bass some time ago, Alexandre Gaudencio explains his thoughts on the bass part of Mobius’ latest single:

“Coming from guitar I am used to playing with a pick, so hitting faster riffs isn’t really an issue. Slap, though, is another story! I had to train up my speed for this song, but it’s a technique I’m really glad I’ve had a chance to hone. I really enjoy performing ‘Akasha’, it’s a slow build up towards a very epic ending that I can really immerse myself in.”

Akasha’ is available to stream and download now via this link. Mobius will independently release ‘Kala’ on 30th January 2020. Pre-orders of the album are available to purchase via BandCamp.
