The Drowning release stunning new album The Radiant Dark today, through Transcending Obscurity Records!

Written by on 8th November 2019

With the album finally hitting the streets today, thanks to The Drowning’s new label Transcending Obscurity Records, we caught up with Mike Hitchen and Steve Hart from the band to get their thoughts on an album that they worked so long and hard on to create…

“This is massive for us right now” says Mike. “A lot of hard work went into the writing and the intense rehearsals prior to going into the studio – but we knew that every band member was 100% dedicated to this album. With The Radiant Dark we knew this was something special from the start and went for it – hammer down! After signing off on the master we knew that we had the album that we had hoped for and more.”

The press certainly seem to agree with Mike’s assessment of The Radiant Dark as the reviews have been nothing short of sensational.

… the best death-doom record released this year, and perhaps the decade.” – 4.5/5 – ANGRY METAL GUY

“… such a superb album…” – 10/10 – METAL TALK

” A stunning release from another essential UK band.” – 9/10 – MUSIPEDIA OF METAL

“… a true masterpiece …” – 14/15 – TWILIGHT MAGAZIN

“… the highest point of their already remarkable career…” – 9/10 – DOOM HEART

“We’ve always joked about how no one seems to get us” says Steve, “but this time feels different. We’re hitting a larger audience than ever and the feedback has been incredible so far…I think people finally get us!”

“I guess it goes to show that hard work can pay off” adds Mike, “and you really have to believe that what you’re doing is right.”

One thing that has helped get the word out there about The Radiant Dark is the premiere of their excellent video for ‘Prometheus Blinded‘ at Decibel Magazine – and you can see that video below.

The album is available now in digi-pack, limited edition box set and digital formats from Transcending Obscurity and a new, limited edition hoodie has just been unveiled as well.
