Reasons to Bet on Tool’s New Album in 2019

Over the past years a frontman of the band Tool Maynard James Keenan has been blamed the most for postponing the release of the new album. Mainly because of his interests to make music with his other bands and to prosper with his wine business. However, it is not difficult to see why none of these projects are threats to a long-awaited Tool record in 2019. The important thing is to pay attention to details that were muted by unsatisfied rants and hilarious memes of some of the fans.

Puscifer Pause

Tool has been active for almost 27 years, while Puscifer started to release music only 11 years ago. Nevertheless, after 12 years since “10,000 days” Puscifer managed to create a massive amount of material. If we were to calculate how much time it takes to listen every Tool studio album and every LP and EP written by Puscifer, we will notice the some interesting stats. It will take only 28% less of the time to listen Puscifer in comparison with to Tool.

Of course, there are a several live albums by Tool. But even this bonus is not enough to outnumber an amount of remixes released by Puscifer during the last decade. Statistically speaking, if Puscifer does not change their creative tempo, within three years they will beat Tool with its length category.

According to the interview Maynard gave to Lars Ulrich, he embraces the idea to maintain a certain level of balance between his music projects. He replied replied to Lars: “I felt like if I was to get back and do another Puscifer record [chuckles] somebody’s gonna sneak in my bedroom and slit my throat”

A Perfect Circle Break

Since there is no need to worry about Puscifer, another “potential threat” on of an average Tool fan is supergroup A Perfect Circle. But as many other fears that people create for themselves this one has no reason for its existence. During Maynard’s speech after receiving a “Golden Gods’ Icon Award”, MJK stated:

“A lot of work is being done, a lot of work has been done. I’ll go on record now is saying you’re gonna see some new music next year”

Why do these words have more value than previous hints on the new Tool music? Why these words have no relation to APC? Because the band released a record after 14 years of break and their world tour is officially over. They will not schedule a separate set of concerts around the U.S. or Europe, since they already been to these places. All the way from Utah to Italy. The final show was played on the 19th of December.

That is why there is also no logical reason to assume that A Perfect Circle are releasing a new album in 2019.

Caduceus Cellars Wintering

Another factor that gives Maynard a good reason to focus on finishing work with Tool is the 23.5° Earth's axis. It is one of the reasons why we have the four seasons. And right now the winter is on our side. That is why there is no serious viticulture work to be done during this time of the year. Even in such a warm and auspicious nature conditions as Arizona. According to the new documentary Maynard’s passion to the work ethic has remained a big part of his lifestyle.

Tool in 2019

Once during a rare long interview in 2014 a founder and the guitarist of the Tool band Adam Jones said:

“Maynard and I have always compared what we do to painting. So if you think about painters, there are painters that are classical. They use oil paints. They do studies. Make sure that lighting’s right on their color. And they do another rough study and they do the final piece… And six month or a year later they have this masterpiece. And there’s other artists, other painters that can do that one day. So that’s me and Maynard.”

And that leads us to a final piece of the facts for a conclusion why Maynard’s “workday” is almost entirely in the books.

Back in January 2018 Adam Jones stated “Music is done. Lyrics coming in hard”. A year ago in January 2019 the latest Maynard’s Tweet related to Tool informs us that lyrics is not only written but recorded as well:

“Update- Final vocals tracked MONTHS ago. Then U.S.-UK-Euro run w #APC. If Tool all inst are tracked, long process of Mixing now. Meanwhile write/film/track w @puscifer for #puscifer2020 & troll the band Fbs with wine posts. #funnyshit #whileyouwerewhiningiwasworking”

Therefore, whether Maynard’s schedule has time for writing with Puscifer and/or mixing with Tool, the biggest part of his work in the studio with the second group is already completed. Not to mention an official website has been updated with new tour dates. And whether Tool fans expect to hear the fifth LP from the band or not, we continue to receive proves that their ears are very likely to hear what they want in 2019.
